Vocal and Songwriting Lessons

Build confidence. Have fun. Learn. Grow.

Hi! It’s nice to meet you. My name is Eva! I am so excited that you, or someone you love, may be interested in taking music lessons!

I teach all levels and ages! I had a variety of voice teachers over the course of my life. All of them have deeply influenced me! Finding an encouraging and uplifting teacher for you or someone you love is so important! My first voice/song-writing teacher, Natalie, allowed me to lead in our musical exploration - giving me options, ideas, and support! I like to take this approach with my students as well. Whatever aspect of voice and music they are interested in, we will explore. I think it is so important that music lessons are fun, and that students are learning what they are truly passionate about. I make it a priority to introduce students to new musical ideas to help aid them in discovering their interests!

If you or someone you know is interested in taking drum lessons click here. Not only is Paul the love of my life and my best friend, but he is also one of the top drummers in the world. He is humble, sweet, and teaches all levels!

How Vocal Lessons Work - Warm Ups

Lessons run 30 mins, but have the opportunity to advance to 45 mins to an hour as students progress. I typically begin lessons with physical and vocal warm ups. Most people don’t realize this, but some of the most formative vocal technique is learned during warm ups! Physical warm ups often consist of a light stretching, focusing on good singing posture, and relieving tension that can affect our vocal health! I tailor our vocal warmups to match the style of music that your child will be singing during the lesson. Vocal warm ups take about 10 mins, and are an integral part of any voice lesson. During these warm ups, we learn the correct singing techniques to create the sounds we want - and preserve our voices. Long-term vocal health begins with good technique!

How Vocal Lessons Work - Song & Activity Choice

Students should come prepared to lessons with an idea of what songs they would like to sing! For the first lesson it is not necessary that they prepare any songs in particular, although they are welcome to! Following the first lesson, together, your student and I will choose a few songs that we work on weekly.

Here is a list of special musical areas that I can incorporate into lessons:

  • Songwriting (lyric writing, music writing, recording, DAW, instrumentation)

  • Ear Training and Interval Training (great for developing a strong musical ear; a skill applicable to every musical situation!)

  • Basic Music Theory (wonderful for choir prep!)

  • Improvisation (learning how to make up music on the fly!)

  • Jazz

  • Audition Prep

  • Acting for Voice

  • Classical/Opera (Italian, Latin)

  • Recording on Garage Band or Logic

  • Cantor Prep (for student cantors, or those training to become cantors in choir. We will work on what it means to sing prayerfully, phrasing, confidence, and more!)

My daughter started taking voice lessons from Ms. Eva about a year ago. Ms. Eva is an incredible, talented and passionate teacher. My daughter is always looking forward to her lessons. I see a lot of improvement in her voice and her confidence. Ms. Eva has also helped her to choose songs for her musical auditions and prepare for them.  I can’t recommend Ms. Eva enough for voice lessons. She is the best!

Ms. Eva Weingarten is an amazing person, teacher, and vocal coach.  She is extremely experienced and well prepared.  She is patient, inspiring, and motivating.  Our daughter has worked with Ms. Eva for over a year now.  She is developing more confidence and skill after each lesson.  Ms. Eva has such a great teaching style that helps the student enjoy and have fun while learning voice.  We are very blessed to have Ms. Eva work with our daughter.  She is such a wonderful voice teacher.

-Katee C.

In the last year since my daughter has been taking vocal lessons from Eva, her confidence and ability has increased dramatically! Eva is constantly researching new ways to teach and consistently engages my daughter's interests week after week. Eva has a natural ability to not only relate to her students, but to encourage with genuine care for them. We can't recommend her enough!

Songwriting Lessons

Song-writing Lessons - everyone is different

I LOVE teaching songwriting! I teach all levels and ages! It’s got to be my FAVORITE thing to teach. It’s totally my thing, and if you’re interested, I want it to be your “thing” too!

Have you ever heard someone who wants to paint say, “Oh, I can’t paint”. Well… I agree to disagree.

I think all humans are creative by design. We literally create each other. If you have even the slightest “itch” to write music— let’s try it together! Have you ever noticed that some of the greatest hits of all time, have been the simplest of songs?

I teach all levels of songwriting, from “I’ve never written a song in my life” to “I am professional songwriter who wants a different perspective”.

If you are interested in co-writing, please contact me below.

Song-writing Lessons - How they work

Did you know there are infinite ways to write a song? I love solving problems, especially when they problems aren’t really problems at all! Have you ever experienced writers block?

It’s very important for me to study my students. I want know how you think. What tools might help you to write with more ease. This enables me to suggest the best practices for you as a songwriter.

  1. Perhaps you struggle with lyrics? In that case, I want you to pick a subject that our song will be about; Sunset.

  2. Then let’s list 10 words that may relate to this word; warm, ocean, eventide, orange, beautiful, darkness, salty, romantic, horizon.

  3. Now lets list a word for each word; warm (hot), ocean (tide), eventide (sleep), orange (orange), beautiful (earth), darkness (starry night), salty (tears), romantic (fire), horizon (glow).

Now we’ve got a word bank to start building sentences from. No sentence is wrong. We just let it flow and edit when we need to.

The sunset’s glow fades quicky,

a hot fire that flickers and fades,

starry night, starry night,

the orange earth goes to sleep.

Across the ocean rolls the eventide

A warm blanket made for you and me.

Salty tears could fill the sea tide,

but starry night, starry night,

the orange earth goes to sleep

….Great job! You’ve written some lyrics!
